The 2nd Workshop on Oil & Gas Development Frontier Techniques held at PKU
Co-hosted by Department of Energy and Resources Engineering and the Precision Petro Forum, the 2nd Workshop on Oil & Gas Development Frontier Techniques was held recently at Peking University. Nearly 100 engineers, senior professionals and researchers in the field of oil & gas exploration attended the event.
The one-day workshop featured an intensive schedule of six plenary speeches by senior petro engineers from top oil companies, including LandOcean Energy Services, BP, and Maersk Oil and Gas. Topics for discussion included shale gas, numerical simulation, real-time monitoring techniques, risk analysis and management in offshore oil exploration and others.
“It’s the second time that we organized high-level international workshop of this type,” said Gong, Chair of the workshop and faculty in the Dept. of Energy and Resources Engineering. “The speakers we invited must be top professionals with adequate overseas working experience, who knows well the frontier advancement in techniques and engineering in oil-related fields. The workshop is for every participant to learn, to communicate and to inspire thinking.”
The Precision Petro Forum (http://www.petro-china.com/) was co-founded by Gong in 2005, when he was pursuing his Ph.D. studies in Petroleum Engineering at Stanford University. The other co-founder Dr. Yuanlin Jiang also received his doctoral degree in Petroleum Engineering from Stanford University. Over the past years, with an increasing number of domestic and overseas members, the forum has become a vital hub to track the latest development in the oil academics and industry. It co-hosted the 1st workshop with Dept. of Energy and Resources Engineering in April last year.
