Recently, the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Peking University and BME at Tsinghua University arranged a get-together for their undergraduates on the campus of Tsinghua. It is the first official meeting for the undergraduates since the establishment of the two departments.

PKU representative student Muyang Sun and Tsinghua student Di Huang introduced the two departments’ general information, curriculum and student activities in order to promote understanding between the two sides. Subsequently, the students were divided into four group activities, each group consisting of students of both departments, who exchanged about their majors, understanding of their professions and future directions of development. The students got to know each other better through further communication.

Established in 2005, the BME department was one of the fundamental departments of College of Engineering at Peking University. From its establishment, BME commits itself onto cutting-edge life science and medical research in the context of engineering technology. The BME department under the Medical School of Tsinghua University has a history of over 30 years, and has many common research areas with the BME at PKU, such as Neural Engineering, Micro/nano Medicine, and Biomedical Imaging.

After the successful convening of the First Peking University - Tsinghua University Biomedical Engineering Joint Seminar in November 2012, the event is another effort initiated by faculty from both departments to promote bilateral student exchange. The activity received good feedback from the students.
