On April 25, President En'ge Wang of Peking University (PKU) visited the College of Engineering (COE) and discussed with the COE leaders on future direction for the college’s development.
At the meeting were Dean Shiyi Chen, Executive Vice Dean Dongxiao Zhang, Secretary of Party Wenchang Tan and many associate deans and department chairs.
In the conference room of the new COE building No. 1 which was put into use only about one year ago, Executive Vice Dean Dongxiao Zhang made an overall report on the College’s developments in the past several years, focusing on three major areas: vision, progress and problems.
He pointed out COE is committed to the development of basic, comprehensive, cross-disciplinary and international engineering sciences, emphasizing innovation and design, and building of a high starting point, high-quality, high-level teaching and research institution.
After several years of efforts, the College has completed basic discipline layout, gathered first-class teachers, achieved significant research progress, promoted people-oriented education, and established a positive social image, he reported.
He also analyzed the factors that constrain the college’s development and made recommendations on school-related work.
Secretary Tan introduced the work of party committee and a variety of cultural activities on campus, with particular emphasis on the party committee’s working ethic of supporting teachers, students and the college’s development.
“COE has made remarkable achievements in scientific research and teaching since its re-establishment”, President Wang commented.
“In the process of continuous progress and development, I advise to pay particular attention to quality and connotation,” Wang said,” The engineering science has great potential to be one of the highlights in the future development of PKU.”
