On January 23, the College of Engineering (COE) held a year-end meeting at COE Building No.1 for all the faculty and staff. 96 teachers participated in the event to jointly review last year and welcome the arrival of the New Year of 2016.

Dean Dongxiao Zhang firstly summarized COE’s big events and progress in 2015. The college held a grand ceremony in October to celebrate its tenth anniversary. In July, the college signed an agreement with ENN Group to receive its donation of 300 million Chinese Yuan for the purpose of constructing a new college building to solve space problem and to carry out collaborative research.

Also in the past year, the college made strides in recruiting new faculty members. Altogether six talented scholars joined the college as full-time faculty members. They are Associate Prof. Shaojun Guo, Assistant Professor Jin Liu, Fanyang Mo, Xiaoding Wei, Huanping Zhou, and Ka Wing Cheng.

In addition, COE also made good achievements in teaching, education global exchange programs, undertaking research projects, publications, international conference organizing, technology transfer and entrepreneurship, as well as resources development. Many teachers received awards of recognition for their outstanding achievements in teaching, research and administration work. Zhang commented that the college had satisfying development in the past year and expressed anticipation to further progress this year.

Associate Dean Jianxiang Wang talked about the overall undergraduate enrollment and education reform of the university which is scheduled to begin this year. He introduced the detailed policies and asked the teachers to further explore teaching methods and raise teaching standards.

College CPC Secretary Zhili Sun then reported the work of the Party Committee in the past year, and emphasized the importance of security and safety. He also invited security officer of the university, Mr. Wanping Liao to give a demonstration about fire prevention and control as well as lab regulations on safety. Before the meeting concluded, Sun expressed appreciation to all and wishes all a happy new year.

The College of Engineering is on winter recess from January 25 - February 17 to celebrate the Spring Festival. The College wishes its students, faculty and supporters a very Happy New Year!
