  • Kunio Suzuki and Shiyi Chen with the students of Globex Summer Program

Kunio Suzuki, president of Yokohama National University (YNU), recently visited Peking University (PKU) and attended the Certificates Awarding Ceremony of the College of Engineering (COE) Globex Summer Program. COE Dean Shiyi Chen, Associate Dean Shaoqiang Tang, and Assistant Dean Pingchou Han also attended the ceremony.

From June 25 to August 24, 12 universities including PKU, University of Delaware, Stanford University, University of Maryland, University of Toronto, Tsinghua University, YNU, and four Chilean Universities participated in the Globex Summer Program 2012, which provided six undergraduate courses delivered by professors and researchers from four of the participating institutions in the location of PKU. On the ceremony, the students received their Certification of Participation from Dean Chen.

Some participant students shared their personal experiences on the ceremony, and gave very positive feedback on the program. University of Delaware student Devon Bond said, “It’s a great experience. I was able to work with students from around the world.  I enjoyed the classes and appreciated the kind help of my PKU student partners. This opportunity allowed me to explore China.”

Kunio Suzuki expressed appreciation of the program. He then introduced the education and research aspects of YNU and welcomed the students to study there.

“The program is excellent in bringing future leaders of the world together,” commented Chen, “I hope the many global programs at PKU will not only help PKU grow, but allow students to be citizens of the world. I have a great vision that one day our students will be able to live and work anywhere in the world.”
