On June 26, accompanied by Marco Tulio S. Cabral from the Embassy of Brazil, a delegation of the S?o Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), Brazil visited the College of Engineering (COE). The purpose of the visit is to discuss FAPESP's proposal to organize a scientific symposium in Beijing.
The FAPESP delegation included Professor Carlos Eduardo Lins da Silva, Advisor to the President of FAPESP and Professor Marcelo Knobel, Co-ordinator for Research Collaboration. They met with Professor Shaoqiang Tang, Associate Dean of COE for International Relations and Professor Xinrong Zhang, faculty of the Department of Energy and Resources Engineering (ERE) of COE.
To enable the delegation to know more about COE, Tang gave an all-round introduction about COE’s education programs, student admission, research areas, projects and international activities. Then Zhang introduced ERE’s main research fields, such as solid waste reuse, solar, wind and biomass.
The delegation said that in order to make more collaboration with China, FAPESP has proposed to Peking University a collaborative seminar as a platform on which researchers from both countries could have exchanges which may lead to further collaborations. They have suggested five themes for the scientific symposium, including Life Sciences/Human Health, Life Sciences/Agricultural Research, Environmental Sciences, Renewable Energies, and Nanotechnology/Optics & Photonics. They hope COE researchers could participate in the topic of renewable energies or nanotechnology.
After detailed discussions, both parties agreed that there are many common research areas between the two institutions, and the room for cooperation is big.
