    COE celebrates the New Year of 2014

  • On January 12, the College of Engineering (COE) held a year-end meeting and celebration on campus for all the faculty and staff. Over 110 teachers participated in the event to jointly celebrate the arrival of the new year. Professor Shiyi Chen, Vice President of Peking University and Founding Dean of COE joined the celebration.

    Dean Dongxiao Zhang firstly summarized COE’s achievement in 2013 and expressed appreciation to all the teachers. He reviewed the College’s great progress last year in many areas, including education globalization, research projects and publications, faculty recruitment, technology transfer and entrepreneurship, as well as resources development. He said COE’s achievements in the above areas were extraordinary, and expressed anticipation to better performance in the next year.

    College Party Secretary Professor Wenchang Tan then reported the work of the Party Committee in the past year. The Labor Union made great efforts to enhance the quality of life for faculty and staff. The Office for Student Affairs also organized many activities to enrich the students’ college life. Tan wishes all the COEers a happy new year.

    In addition, some teachers received awards of recognition for their outstanding achievements in teaching, research and community work in the last year.

    In the performance session, the teachers presented the audience a wonderful watching experience with a variety of programs, all directed and played by the COE faculty and staff themselves. The different types of programs, including dances, poem recite, vocal solo, crosstalk and magic show, won many applauses and acclaims from the audience.

    The College of Engineering will be on winter recess from January 20 - February 12 to celebrate the Spring Festival. The College wishes its students, faculty and supporters a Happy New Year!
