    The College of Engineering holds Alumni Event on the 116th anniversary celebration of the university

  • On May 2nd, invited by the Office of Alumni Affairs and Fund Management, College of Engineering (COE), nearly a hundred COE alumni and their families returned to their beloved campus to celebrate alma mater’s 116th anniversary.

    The COE Office of Alumni Affairs and Fund Management warmly received them and prepared for them brochures of the college as well as technology transfer programs, quarterly periodicals featuring recent news and events, and souvenir T-shirts.

    To encourage the alumni to recall old times on campus, a directional tour connecting key spots on campus was arranged, covering the COE Building No.1, Weiming Lake, and Yan Nan Yuan, where the alumni collected stamps in specific destinations. They also visited the Laboratory of Robotic Fish and watched the exhibition on COE’s representative technology transfer projects.

    On May 3rd, the First Meeting of the Second Board, COE Alumni Association /Alumni Reunion Meeting was convened in COE building No.1. Professor Dongxiao Zhang, dean of COE and chairman of the board, Professor Wenchang Tan, Party Secretary of COE and executive vice chair of the board, and Ms. Yongmei Li, assistant dean of COE and vice chair of the board attended the meeting.

    Zhang first made a detailed presentation on COE’s development during the last year, such as new faculty members, scientific and research progress, teaching achievement, student enrollment, and technology transfer. He extended appreciation for the alumni’s support and help, and asked for their continuous attention and advice.

    Following the presentation, the attendees had an active discussion about the future work of the alumni association, such as promoting links among alumni entrepreneurs, increasing the functions of the organization, and planning for the Ten Years’ Anniversary of COE which will take place next year. To involve more young alumni in the association, the meeting approved seven new young members.

    Moreover, the Boeing/ExxonMobil/Schlumberger Scholarship/Fellowship for the Year 2013 were awarded to the recipients, composing of 33 COE undergraduate, master and Ph.D. students and five COE faculty and staff. Representatives from the respective companies attended the ceremony and had interactions with the recipients.
