Recently, James w. Wagner, President of Emory University (Atlanta, USA) paid a visit to Peking University, accompanied by Mr. Philip Wainwright, vice provost for international affairs of Emory University, and Mr. Rong Cai, Dean of Confucius institute. Professor Dongxiao Zhang, Dean of College of Engineering at Peking University, with Professors Qiushi Ren, Tianyu Xie, Jianzhong Xi and Changhui Li welcomed distinguished guests. Emory delegation talked with students from the joint Ph.D. program of Peking University, Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University. The US guests also visited the student’s laboratories.

During the visit, President James w. Wagner inquired about the joint Ph.D. program students’ background and their research topics. President James w. Wagner asked for the students to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the joint project. All students expressed that the joint Ph.D. program broaden their global vision, deepened the understanding between China and United States. Students also exchanged their views about bilateral cooperation research and scheduling problems of the project with the US guests.  

According to President Wagner’s suggestion, all delegation members and students came to comprehensive research building to visit the labs. In Professor Ying Luo’s laboratory, President Wagner showed great interest in a new type of implant apparatus, and discussed with the Ph. D. students on the principle and function of that apparatus. President Wagner highly praised the Department of Biomedical Engineering scientific research projects. He said:” these scientific research projects are highly interesting and valuable.”

After that, at the Lin Hu Xuan meeting room, the US delegation discussed with the professors of Peking University. Professor Dongxiao Zhang, Dean of College of Engineering (COE) warmly welcomed the US delegation and introduced the implementation of the joint doctoral program in COE. President Wagner highly acknowledged the value of the three school joint training mode. In the end of the talk, Professor Dongxiao Zhang said that COE will further strengthen this collaboration projects.

After the visit in COE, the US delegation met Lin, Jianhua, the President of Peking University as well as other univesity leaders.
