COE joins hands with Ovation Health Research Institute of ENN Group in energy and biotechnology research

  • A delegation from the Ovation Health Research Institute of ENN Group paid a visit to the College of Engineering (COE) recently to launch cooperation in energy and biotechnology research. The delegation included researchers, experts and administrative leaders. Nearly 20 COE teachers introduced their research fields, with an aim to establish research cooperation.

Professor Dongxiao Zhang, dean of COE, said on the meeting, “ENN Group has huge inputs in technology development and product research and boasts rich experience and results, while COE has many technologies in a rather matured level which may transfer to products in a quick speed. I hope our meeting can lead to cooperation in new energy and biotechnology.”

Dexian Jia, dean of the Ovation Health Research Institute, then introduced the basic situation of the institute, in terms of infrastructure, research teams and directions. She mentioned that they focus on Chinese medicine and health, and endeavor to reduce the chances for people to get ill. “I hope on this occasion we could carry out free and open communication, discuss together how to cooperate, and explore our potential.”

Prof. Huaiqiu Zhu introduced the three main research directions of the Biomedical Department, which include advanced medical imaging, nano-medicine and materials, health informatics, and computational medicine.

Prof. Feng Chen talked on his research in food biotechnology and algae biology. And then 14 professors from Biomedical Department, Dept. of Mechanics and Engineering Science, Dept. of Energy and Resources Engineering, and Dept. of Industrial Engineering and Management talked about their research respectively. Research topics included: Accurate diagnosis and personalized medicine evaluation system, Clinically oriented photoacoustic imaging system, Design and optimization of artificial prosthesis, Cell mechanics and biological micro and nano technology, Nano nerve electrode design, preparation and application, Three-dimensional skin confocal imaging analysis system, Nanostructured Biomaterials for Regenerative Medicine, Developing a new generation DNA sequencing technology and devices, Medical imaging systems based on the elastic piezoelectric structure, Metabolic engineering algae high value-added products, Endoscope development, Gene sequencing under the two-dimensional detection method, and Development and application of in vivo RNA detection technology.

The delegation of the Ovation Health Research Institute showed great interest in the lectures, and raised many questions. The two parties had a heated discussion and deep exchange. Qing Tang, associate dean of the institute, summarized the meeting that COE has established sound basic research, with good prospects of technology transfer. The institute is confident with the cooperation, and will make a long-term plan.
