COE leaders receive the delegation of Sharp Corporation

  • On October 17, a team made up of senior managers of Sharp Corporation visited Peking University to discuss possible cooperation in student education, scholarships and research. The delegation, headed by Nobuyuki Taniguchi, executive officer and group general manager of Sharp Corporation’s Human Resources Group, was warmly received by Shiyi Chen, dean of the Graduate School and the College of Engineering (COE), and Hui Zhou, director of the Office of Scientific Research of Peking University.

As China is a very large market for Sharp products, the company has decided to implement the policy of “Produce locally and Sell locally,” according to Taniguchi. Sharp intends to recruit a large number of Chinese people and looked to Peking University for advice on how to attract the best talents in China.

Zhou first referred to Peking University’s emphasis on cooperation with excellent companies and enterprises. He suggested  cooperation in terms of student recruitment, scholarships and research projects in engineering and medicine between Sharp and Peking University. Chen then pointed out that around 10 percent of the COE faculty members had been working in Japan and had built very good relations with Japanese institutions and companies.

Regarding student recruitment, Chen raised an initial proposal of a PKU-Sharp-Japanese University partnership, which may sponsor Peking University students to pursue degrees in Japanese universities and get them back to work for Sharp following graduation.

Dongxiao Zhang, executive vice dean of the College of Engineering, added that Sharp could consider involvement in the teaching and research in the college, making them better able to recruit students who fit available positions.
