Solar Decathlon China (SD China) has announced the final selections of 34 universities to participate in the inaugural SD China competition to be held in Datong, China in August 2013.
SD China is an internationally award-winning program, challenging collegiate teams to design, build and operate solar-powered energy efficient houses. The competition will showcase cutting-edge solar energy and energy-efficiency technologies and solutions, and provide support to the new energy industry as well as energy efficient urban development.
The competition is co-organized by China National Energy Administration and the U.S. Department of Energy, and undertaken by the College of Engineering at Peking University.
According to Pingrong Yu, chair of the organizing committee, the team selection reflects the international nature of the program and introduces cross-border collaboration. The 36 universities from 13 countries all over the world have formed 23 teams, one third of which are joint collaborations based on international university partnerships. Their proposals represent the diverse range of creativity, technologies, geographic locations as well as target markets.
