The System of Technology and Entrepreneurship holds year-end meeting

  • The System of Technology and Entrepreneurship held its 2011 year-end meeting on December 29-30.

The meeting was convened by Duoxiang Wang, assistant dean of the College of Engineering and vice chair of the Committee for Technology and Entrepreneurship. Wang and all the directors of the system’s affiliate organizations attended the meeting.

Now composed of over 20 organizations, the system has expanded over the last year. The system now incorporates four major parts: the offices of administration and service, the Institute for Engineering, Gongdao Investment Corporation and Gongdao Holdings Corporation.

Last year, a governing body called the Committee for Technology and Entrepreneurship was established in the College of Engineering, with Shiyi Chen, dean of the College of Engineering as committee chair and Wang as vice chair. College leaders, department chairs and representatives from six departments are members of the committee.

The Office of Development is responsible for communication, media relations, fundraising, fund management, industrial board administration, and alumni relations of the College of Engineering.

“We have had a good year in every aspect,” said Yongmei Li, director of the office. “We have developed good relationships with the media, the academia, the industry, and the alumni. Our popularity is expanding. Last year the donation contracts reached almost 90 million RMB, which was unprecedented.”

The Office of Technology and Entrepreneurship made breakthroughs by cooperating with local governments and companies. For example, the office successfully promoted COE Assistant Professor Qi’ning Wang’s research on intelligent assistive limbs by receiving 20 million RMB in research funds and 15 million RMB in industrialization funds from Beijing Disabled Persons Association. The cooperation with Nanjing and Nantong has also come to agreement.

The Institute of Engineering Xiamen Branch reported cooperation with Xiamen government, from whom it receives 20 million RMB research fund annually. Shaoxing Institute has set up 23 technology, research and industrialization projects with the support of Shaoxing government.

Meanwhile, Gongdao Investment Corporation has set up five foundations, totaling 250 million RMB, with contributors including the College of Engineering, local governments and enterprises.

Gongdao Holdings Corporation has made remarkable achievements in product industrialization. The endoscope project has generated sales of 10 million RMB; the intelligent assistive limbs project is advancing steadily, with the product estimated to come into the market in May 2012; the dynamic simulation software has received orders of 30 million RMB and other pre-market products may include Precision Micro, disk defect detection device and biological sensors. Min Wang, deputy general manager of Gongdao Holdings reported.
