Professor Pingchou Han talks about the Global Educational Exchange (Globex) program

  • On March 30, Professor Pingchou Han, assistant dean for global education in the College of Engineering, introduced the Global Educational Exchange (Globex) program to the students.
Professor Lianping Wang from the University of Delaware (UD), one of COE’s collaborating partners for this program, offered insight to COE’s counterpart.

According to Han, the Globex program constitutes an initiative for educational exchange and research collaboration between the College of Engineering at Peking University and a foreign engineering school. It provides a framework for exceptional students and faculty to attain a global educational, research and professional experience. There are currently two types of programs: the Globex Design and the Globex Education. Twelve universities from the U.S., Canada and Asia have participated in these two programs.

The Globex Design programs allows students to work in teams of four (2 PKU and 2 foreign students) on an industry-sourced project. The recently initiated Globex Education program allows students to study and research at foreign universities for a semester, while allowed foreign professors and students to come to Peking University in the summer.

The Globex Education is set to begin this summer, according to Han.

Han encouraged the students to apply for the upcoming three programs, including the summer program at PKU, the fall program at UD and the summer course at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

For the PKU summer program, professors from the 12 collaborating partners, including Stanford University, the University of Delaware and the University of Maryland will lecture at Peking University. For the UD fall program, up to six PKU sophomores and juniors can study at UD in the fall semester with financial support from the Chinese Overseas Scholarship Council. Lastly, CUHK’s summer course, runnin fromJune 18 to August 12, has five vacancies for PKU junior students.

“I think this is wonderful,” said one of the students . “During my studies at Peking University, I [can] study abroad, take courses and do research for a certain time. It will definitely help open my eyes.”
