On the occasion of Peking University’s Sydney University’s Day, the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies of the University of Sydney paid a visit on November 26th to the College of Engineering (COE) to seek collaboration opportunities.
The delegation headed by Prof. Archie Johnston, Dean of Engineering and Information Technologies, was warmly received by Prof. Dongxiao Zhang, Dean of COE, Prof. Pingchou Han, Assistant Dean, Prof. Moubin Liu of the Department of Mechanics and Engineering Sciences and Prof. Hao Wang of the Department of Energy and Resources Engineering.
According to Prof. Johnston, the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies of the University of Sydney ranked in the world's top 50 engineering and information technology faculties in the 2014-15 Times Higher Education ranking, with 7000 students and five schools, including a) Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, b) Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, c) Civil Engineering, d) Electrical and Information Engineering, and e) Information Technologies. It’s keen to collaborate with COE in research as well as student exchange.
Prof. Zhang and Han introduced the six departments of COE, including a) Mechanics and Engineering Science, b) Energy and Resources Engineering, c) Biomedical Engineering, d) Materials Science and Engineering, e) Industrial Engineering and Management, and f) Aeronautics and Astronautics. They pointed out that the COE students are highly selected and talented, and most of the faculty staff have overseas background.
Through the communication, both sides found out that the two institutions have many research fields in common, such as energy storage, complex systems, nanomaterials and data science, which will lay a good foundation for research collaboration. In addition, the COE globex program, which is a global student and faculty exchange initiative, may be a good program for the University of Sydney to join for student involvement.
