On July 9th, College of Engineering (COE) grandly hosted the commencement ceremony for Class of 2015 in Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center.
COE leaders, department chairs, teachers, along with parents of some graduates attended the event to send their congratulations and best wishes.
In a short video prior to the official start, the graduate students shared their individual experiences of studying and living on campus, and expressed their many feelings about graduation. The video also interviewed some COE teachers, who sent good wishes to the graduates and expressed great anticipations.
At the ceremony, dean Dongxiao Zhang gave a congratulating speech. He said, “I’m much proud that you have completed your degrees. The future is lying on your hands. I hope you will make good use of the knowledge you have learned, the ability you have gained, the ideas you have shaped, to make great contributions to the society. Make huge efforts to become a leader in technology innovation, a rule maker in industry and a pioneer in your field.”

Alumnus Xiaolong Yin, currently an associate professor in the Department of Petroleum Engineering in Colorado School of Mines, US., delivered a speech on the ceremony. He told the audience about his experience of integrating personal interests with career development. He encouraged the students to keep keen in what they do, to maintain self-improvement, to be diligent and to grab right opportunities.
Subsequently, teacher representative Jie Song asked the graduates to be persistent and responsible. “When you leave campus and face the big outside world, you will probably meet great challenges and have to make various choices. Do remember to have responsibility in your heart and persevere in doing things.”
According to the overall performances during the years at university, several students were elected to be outstanding undergraduates and outstanding graduates. They received the honor from the college secretary Zhili Sun and associate dean Feng Chen on the ceremony.
The graduates also gave a collective gift of a picture with the theme of water to the COE in order to wish the college a splendid future.
