    COE teachers win awards at the 14th PKU Teaching Contest for Young Teachers

  • Teachers from the College of Engineering achieved excellent results at the 14th Peking University Teaching Contest for Young Teachers recently held on campus. In the Session of Science and Technology, Assistant Professor Jie Song from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management and Associate Professor Changhui Li from the Department of Biomedical Engineering took the second prize. Assistant Professor Yue Yang from the Department of Mechanics and Engineering Science and Associate Professor Jie Liu from the Department of Energy and Resources Engineering also received prizes.

    The Teaching Contest for PKU Young Teachers has been an annual event since 2000, having had participants of over 900 in total. It aims to provide an opportunity for PKU young teachers to present teaching skills and exchange ideas on education.

    This year’s contest is jointly organized by the PKU Labor Union, Office of Teaching Affairs, Office of Human Resources, Graduate School, the Center for Modern Education Technology and the Provost’s Office. 48 young teachers from 22 colleges, departments, institutes and centers participated in the event, marking the largest scale in history. The judging panel, made up of renowned professors and experts in the related fields, added student judges last year and young teacher judges this year.

    Over the years, the Labor Union of College of Engineering has always encouraged young teachers to participate in the contest. They arranged rehearsals for the contestants and asked experts to give advice of improvement, in order to help the teachers achieve better results. In the past years, many teachers have won the first, second and third prizes. Among them, the first prize winners included Associate Professor Xun Huang (the 10th contest). The second prize winners included Assistant Professor Haifeng Yu (the 13th contest), Assistant Professor Chao Zhou, Associate Professor Ruqiang Zou (the 12th contest), and Associate Professor Guoxin Cao (the 11th contest).
