On September 24, Ji-Beom Yoo, dean of College of Engineering, Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU), Korea paid a visit to the College of Engineering (COE), Peking University. Already in connection with Peking University, SKKU intends to seek educational and research collaboration opportunities with COE in the fields of theoretical and applied mechanics, energy and resources, material sciences, as well as to establish student exchange programs.
Professor Jianxiang Wang, associate dean of COE, expressed a warm welcome to his visit, and introduced COE’s history, departments, students and research status.
Representative faculty members including Professor Chunyang Xiong from the Dept. of Mechanics and Engineering Science, Professor Xiaowei Zhan from the Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering and Professor Yi Zheng from the Dept. of Energy and Resources Engineering gave briefings on their departments.
In addition, Professor Pingchou Han, assistant dean of COE, introduced the COE Globex program, a successful global educational exchange program for students since 2012, which has involved many universities from US, Europe, Canada, Singapore and China, and plans to take in more universities.
Yoo introduced that SKKU in Korea was founded in 1398 and its College of Engineering was established in 1965. The college has academics in chemical engineering, materials sciences, mechanical engineering, information science and architecture. It now enrolls over 4600 undergraduate students and 921 graduate students. He expressed a strong willingness to have educational cooperation with COE.
After a detailed discussion, both sides agreed that the Globex program may be a good opportunity to start cooperation, and creating personal contacts between the faculty members from the two colleges should be an effective way.
