Department of Biomedical Engineering participates in the 2013 annual meeting of Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES)

  • The 2013 annual meeting of Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) was recently held at Seattle International Conference Center, US. The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) of the College of Engineering, Peking University (PKU) participated in the grand conference and made broad and in-depth communication with many other world-class institutions.

BMES is one of the biggest international conferences in the field of biomedical engineering, which attracts over 3000 scholars every year. It covers a wide range of topics including research, teaching and personnel recruitment, and it has become an important international stage of exhibition and communication.

As a second-time attendee of BMES and the sole Asian institution among the 500 exhibition participants this year, BME attracted huge attention from overseas students and professionals. They inquired on the teaching, research and administration issues of the department, and consulted about study, work and research cooperation opportunities. In the meantime, other participating universities including Harvard, Yale, Johns Hopkins and Georgia Tech held discussions with BME about student cultivation.

In particular, BME hosted the event of “Seattle-PKU Night” for PKU alumni on BMES to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival as well as the National Day, which were joined by many PKU graduates including Professor Shu Chien, a PKU alumnus and an eminent American biological scientist and engineer who is one of only 11 scholars who are members of all three U.S. national institutes: the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine.
