
Recently, hosted by the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME), College of Engineering, Peking University (PKU), the 8th PKU/GeorgiaTech/Emory Biomedical Engineering Workshop was held at Peking University (PKU). The delegation from Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at GT-Emory, led by department chair Ravi Bellamkonda, attended the workshop with BME professors, led by department chair Professor Qiushi Ren. Ms. Sue Van, chairman of Wallace Coulter Foundation which has given long-standing support to PKU and GT-Emory joined the discussion.
The annual joint workshop has been held alternatively in Beijing, China and Atlanta, US for a continuous eight years, with an aim to update the recent developments in both departments and further the cooperation between the two parties.
In the workshop, the updates of the two departments’ development in the last year were reviewed. In particular, the Joint Ph.D. Program between PKU/GeorgiaTech/Emory reached a milestone point as the first graduate received her degree this summer.
Furthermore, many faculty members from both departments talked about their research progress and discussed cooperation possibilities. It’s agreed that three fields of Nanomedicine, Biomaterials and Imaging Devices are among the top priorities for further collaboration.
Besides, the participants also discussed the issue of expanding education internationalization and promoting programs for undergraduate-level exchanges.
