The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME), Peking University has joined hands with the Central Institute of Healthcare Engineering (ZiMT) at Friedrich-Alexander Universitaet Erlangen-Nuernberg (FAU), Germany for cooperation in research and teaching. Siemens AG in Germany also joined the partnership to provide research opportunities.
Dr. Yansong Li, Vice President of Peking University, Prof. Dr. -Ing. Joachim Hornegger, Vice President of FAU Research, Professor Qiushi Ren, chair of BME, and Dr. Klaus Klingenbeck, Vice President of Siemens Innovation Business Unit AX signed the related agreements on Monday in the meeting room of Pa Kade House at Peking University. Officers from the Peking University Office for International Relations and many faculty members of the Department of Biomedical Engineering were present.
Peking University and FAU are both Universities of an outstanding scientific and academic reputation. In an initial period of five years, they will have cooperation in research and teaching carried out between BME and ZiMT in the field of Healthcare and Biomedical Engineering. The detailed cooperation will include the exchange of postgraduate doctoral research candidates within the Graduate Program Healthcare Engineering (GPHE), academic exchange between teaching staff, scholars and students with a view to gaining further academic qualifications or for teaching, study and research, and the regular exchange of information on research projects, conferences, academic courses and events.
“I hope our cooperation with Germany will bring more global vision for our students, faculty and the department as a whole, ” said Prof. Ren, chair of BME.

For the GPHE program, Siemens has agreed to provide the opportunity for selected candidates to conduct research activities for their postgraduate thesis at the locations of Siemens AG, Healthcare Sector in Germany.
