On December 22, organized by the Office of Alumni Relations and sponsored by alumni Dianxia Xie (1993’) and Jin Xu (1991’), the second executive board meeting of the College of Engineering Alumni Association was held in Shanghai. Many Shanghai alumni participated in the reunion event afterwards.
As Board Chairman of the Alumni Association, Professor Shiyi Chen presided over the meeting. The board approved six new members, including Mr. Lu’nan Wang (1982’), vice president of Baic Motor Beijing Branch, Mr. Jia Niu (1983’), trustee and vice president of investment company Orient Horizon, Mr. Tao Ye (1985’), president of Guangdong Dadong Motor Group, Mr. James Tang (1987’), co-founder of Market Research Company Data100, Mr. Guangyu Yin (1987’), trustee of Zheshang Investment Holding. Group, Mr. Shui Liu (1988’), chairman and president of Shenzhen Techand Ecological Environment Company and Mr. Xuesong Geng (1990’), general manager of Beijing Zhongsheng Investment Company.
According to Ms. Yongmei Li, secretary general of the association, the alumni association established an Alumni Fund in May 4, 2012, which has received kind donation of 160,595 yuan from 255 people. The fund will be used to support alumni with financial difficulties, to reimburse alumni activities expenses and to promote the growth of the alumni association. In addition, on the 60th anniversary of the Department of Mechanics in September 2012, a Matching Fund was set up by the College of Engineering to the Department of Mechanics to support its development.
The attendees then had an active discussion about the future work of the association, such as creating more communication opportunities for the alumni, offering more help to the alumni in difficulties and collecting and completing alumni contact information.
In the subsequent meeting with Shanghai alumni, Dean Shiyi Chen gave a detailed report of the College of Engineering in terms of its current departments, faculty recruitment, scientific research, student education and industrial cooperation, and asked more attention and support from the alumni. Duoxiang Wang, assistant dean of the College of Engineering for technology transfer and entrepreneurship, talked about the many ongoing industrialization projects. Three student teams Solar Decathlon, Robot Team and Aviation Club also introduced their work.
Limei Wang, executive vice director of Peking University Alumni Association, said, “At Peking University we are paying great attention to our alumni, and hopes to offer more help to their professional and personal development. We also love to hear their suggestions to the university. I think the COE alumni association shares with us this vision, and has carried out many innovative and forward-looking acts. They have done excellent work in recent years.”
