Marc Lucas, deputy dean of Mines ParisTech, visited the College of Engineering on April 26 to seek student exchange opportunities.
He was received by Dongxiao Zhang, executive vice dean of COE, and Pingchou Han, assistant dean for global education. Lucas made a speech entitled: “How to become a top engineering manager,” to COE students the same day.
Lucas introduced Mines ParisTech as one of the most prominent French engineering schools and a prestigious member of ParisTech (Paris Institute of Technology), which aims to train top engineering managers with desirable cross culture capabilities. He hoped Mines students could take engineering courses at Peking University, while COE students could pursue their studies in Mines.
His proposal was welcomed by Zhang, who pointed out that COE stresses the importance of study abroad opportunities. The Global Educational Exchange Program, for instance, involves over 10 universities worldwide.
Lucas told students his knowledge is based on discussion with top executives at major companies. Mines education is tied closely to the industry.
“My job is to set up a strategic vision for innovative higher education for executive engineers. We are mostly involved in competency and cross-cultural development of our students,” Lucas said.
He introduced the 9 + 9 program of Mines ParisTech, which offers scholarships and enrolls about 50 overseas students each year from top universities in China, including PKU.
