    Globex: Education going global

  • Professor Shiyi Chen, dean of the College of Engineering (COE), recently made a briefing about the COE Global Educational Exchange (Globex) Program to nearly 200 teachers and students. Chen said the program marked a big step toward COE's promotion of global education. He encouraged more active participation from the students.

According to Chen, COE has had an international vision since its establishment. Over the years, COE has fostered an increasing number of partnerships with many world class universities in the United States, Japan, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, among many others countries. The Globex program is an innovative approach, providing a comprehensive framework for exceptional students and faculty to attain a global educational, research and professional experience.

At the briefing, Globex Director Pingchou Han introduced  the program’s subsets: Globex Design and Globex Education.

Globex Design allows students to work in teams of four (2 local and 2 foreign students) on an industry-sourced project while Globex Education, to be launched this summer, will invite foreign professors and students to teach and study at Peking University in the summer, and send COE students to study and perform research at foreign universities for a semester. Han said that 12 universities from the U.S., Canada and several Asian nations have participated in  Globex.

"I believe that international exchange programs like Globex are extremely beneficial to our students. Contacts with foreign professors and students will bring an international vision to our students, and may shape the direction of their future,” Chen said.
