    Prof. Steven Feng Chen elected as Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC)

  • Professor Steven Feng Chen of the College of Engineering has been elected as a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC).

    Chen is currently a chair professor and director of the Institute for Food & Bioresource Engineering. He is an expert in functional food, microalgal biotechnology including microalgal bioenergy, and biochemical & bioresource engineering. He was among the first in the world to point out the biotechnological potential of heterotrophic growth of microalgae. He is particularly interested in understanding the molecular mechanism of heterotrophic biosynthesis of microalgal metabolites.

    Professor Chen is serving as an associate editor of the RSC journal Food & Function, and on the editorial board of four other international journals. He was previously elected as a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (FAIMBE).
